Home tour – A Victorian barn conversion beautifully decorated for Christmas

Today's home tour of a converted barn provides plenty of Christmas decor inspiration for creating a minimal and modern interior that's full of festive touches and cosy details...

It has long been my dream to live in a converted barn, so when I discovered Calista’s account @TheBarnAtManorFarm on Instagram a couple of years ago, I was hooked.

I loved the clean lines of the interior, coupled with all the character of a Victorian barn – so, when I saw it decorated for Christmas, I was even more infatuated!

I interviewed Calista for Reclaim magazine last December, so I got to learn even more about her beautiful home in the Yorkshire Wolds. You can revisit the article in Issue 67 of Reclaim (available as a digital download) if you want to find out all about the renovation work that the couple carried out to create their beautiful home.

So, when I was planning my festive home tour on my blog this year, I immediately thought of the Barn at Manor Farm. I figured that the chic interior could only be enhanced by some pretty festive touches and, when I saw Calista’s photos of her tree and decorations, I knew I had to share them with you.

The festive fun starts in the entryway, where Calista has decorated the log pile with fairy lights. Lanterns are around the hall and on the sideboard to house flickering candles for a welcoming look.

The safest way to do this would be with LED lights and faux LED candles with a sparkling effect – that way you’ll get a cosy glow without any safety problems.

It leads through into the living room, which is the ultimate festive space; a large roaring fireplace (that the couple installed themselves), squishy cushions and a floor-to-ceiling Christmas tree. I’d love to cosy-up in this room for the whole Christmas period!

They’ve built-in plenty of storage either side of the fireplace, which is always handy for displaying a selection of festive books and candlesticks. There’s even space for stacked logs beside the wood burner, and the solid wood mantlepiece is simply decorated with a garland and candles beside the TV.

I love how they’ve mounted the television above the fireplace, which not only frees up extra floor space for the large Christmas tree, but also creates the perfect spot for watching festive films in front of the cosy glow of the fire. It’s simple to do; just follow these step-by-step instructions to hang your TV on wall.

The process is slightly different for stud walls, concrete, plasterboard or brick walls (like this original chimney breast) but with the right fixings and tools you can hang virtually any television on a wall to create a cosy zone for a Christmas movie marathon.

The kitchen isn’t forgotten – the space has been decorated with minimalistic paper stars, a vase of eucalyptus stems, and twinkling candles on the butcher’s block. It’s just enough to bring a Christmassy vibe into the room, while keeping it clean and fresh, ready for cooking a festive meal.

Likewise, the dining table is ready to accept guests, with candlesticks that Calista upcycled to match her repainted pine table and more eucalyptus leaves as a festive centrepiece. The combination of natural wood textures and fresh white and grey paint gives the whole space a Scandi-style vibe; perfect for Christmas.

I don’t know about you, but this is exactly the kind of home I’d love to celebrate Christmas in. Let me know what you love about the Barn at Manor Farm in the comments below and please share if you’ve been inspired to recreate any of these decoration ideas in your own home this festive season. And don’t forget to follow @TheBarnAtManorFarm on Instagram for plenty more updates. 🙂
